Question: Hello, I am a 36 year old African American female who has had acne since the age of 13. I have tried ALL of the over-the-counter acne meds., to no avail. I am a little leary of oral medications. What treatments do you offer and would recommend? I also have acne scarring and hyperpigmentation. Please help, I have had to deal with this ALL of my life. Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
I would suggest an appointment with the Skin Institute in our office to begin intensive work on the acne using topical agents and short term antibiotics. When the acne is controlled we can consider working on the pigmentation. The scarring will be the most difficult problem to treat, so I would consider that last. Having lived the life of acne, I'm quite familiar with your concerns & frustrations. For further assistance please call (912)351-5050 ext.101 (Beth) to make an appointment with me and another with the Skin Institute.
