Treating Puffy or Drooping Skin Around the Eyes

As we age, the skin around our eyes often changes, and sometimes in unwelcome ways. But there are treatments, both surgical and non-surgical, to help your eyes retain a more youthful appearance.

For some people, extra fat deposits in the lower eyelid cause what we call "bags" under the eyes, and give the eyes a puffy appearance. Puffiness can also occur in the upper eyelids, creating a tired look. A surgical procedure called blepharoplasty can be done to remove these fatty deposits around the eye.

Blepharoplasty is also done to remove excess skin in the natural fold of the upper lids, and excess skin and wrinkles around the lower lids. Sometimes this loose skin can hang down from the upper eyelids and even partially obstruct your vision.

There are non-surgical options for treating other eye issues. If you have too little fat under the eye creating a droopy-eyed look, you may benefit from dermal fillers like Restylane, Juvéderm and Perlane. If you have dark circles under your eyes caused by natural skin pigment or leaking blood vessels, a laser treatment from The Skin Institute may be your best option.
