This week, you won't find Dr. Scott Vann or Dr. Barbara Davies greeting patients in our Savannah offices. But they're not on vacation - they're performing life-altering reconstructive surgeries for people who could not otherwise receive this critical care.
Dr. Vann and Dr. Davies are in Guatemala, serving with "Faith in Practice," a group that brings physicians into impoverished areas to perform needed surgeries and medical care. The Faith in Practice website has a blog with frequent updates on patients - you hear a bit of their life stories, and how those lives are changed after contact with doctors like Dr. Vann and Dr. Davies.
The blog includes stories about people like 9-year-old Ily, who suffered severe burns and needed reconstructive surgery. The blog author writes, "Ily is a brave young girl of only 9 years old. I am not sure that I have seen this much courage in anyone before today. She appears to be very happy even after suffering so much pain."
