Scarlet SRF Microneedling and Agnes RF Microneedling: Exclusively at Savannah Plastic Surgery

It may not be possible to stop aging, but it’s definitely possible to slow down the signs of aging! Several of those signs can be improved with radiofrequency microneedling treatments:
• Fine lines
• Wrinkles
• Sagging skin
• Scarring
At Savannah Plastic Surgery’s Skin Institute and Laser Center, we’re pleased to offer Scarlet and Agnes microneedling. These are two effective radiofrequency (RF) treatments for the face and/or body.

What Are Radiofrequency Microneedling Skin Treatments?

Microneedling treatments use very tiny needles to create wounds in the skin. These wounds are so small that you barely feel them, but they’re enough to trigger your body to activate a healing response. As your skin heals, it incorporates more collagen and elastin. This makes the skin smoother, firmer, and more finely textured.

One form of this treatment is called radiofrequency (RF) microneedling. RF is added into the mix to heighten the efficacy of the treatment. Radiofrequency sounds complicated, but it’s actually pretty simple! During RF microneedling, targeted energy pulses are delivered to treatment areas along with microneedles to enhance the treatment. This combination is more effective than microneedling alone at stimulating skin renewal via increased collagen production and elastin production.

Why Have Microneedling Treatments?

As we get older, the levels of certain molecules in our skin start to drop. These include:

  • Collagen
  • Elastin
  • Hyaluronic acid

The reduced levels of these molecules mean skin begins to lose its elasticity. As a result, you may notice your skin sagging and fine lines and wrinkles forming.

Microneedling treatments—including radiofrequency microneedling and the Scarlet and Agnes treatments—work to restore elasticity and youthfulness to your skin by restoring those essential molecules. These treatments can:

  • Improve skin texture
  • Reduce the appearance of scars
  • Soften and reduce facial wrinkles
  • Tighten skin on other parts of the body, including the décolletage, knee area, and lower abdomen

What Makes Scarlet and Agnes Microneedling Procedures Special?

Scarlet and Agnes are two different types of RF microneedling treatment. They both use RF (Scarlet uses short-pulse radiofrequency.) and microneedling to induce skin damage that’s repaired over time with youthful results.

There are a few small differences between Scarlet radiofrequency microneedling and Agnes microneedling that make each suitable for different situations.

Is Scarlet RF Microneedling Right for You?

The benefits of Scarlet RF microneedling are that it:

  • Lifts and tightens the skin on the face, scalp, and body
  • Improves skin texture
  • Reduces the appearance of wrinkles
  • Minimizes enlarged pores
  • Reduces acne scarring
  • Reduces sun damage
  • Reduces dark spots
  • Reduces stretch marks
  • Reduces burn scars

How Is Scarlet Different from Other RF Microneedling Treatments?

RF microneedling procedures are minimally invasive treatments that cause little discomfort, but with Scarlet treatments, there’s even less pain—as well as less downtime—compared to other microneedling treatment options.

Scarlet uses short-pulse radiofrequency (SRF) and has three treatment modes designed for the:

  • Face
  • Scalp
  • Body

This means when you choose Scarlet SRF microneedling, you get many additional treatment options.

Is Agnes RF Microneedling Right for You?

What can Agnes microneedling do for your skin?

  • Lift and tighten facial skin
  • Smooth wrinkles
  • Treat cystic acne
  • Define the jawline
  • Remove unwanted fat from puffy lower eyelids

How Is Agnes Different from Other RF Microneedling Procedures?

Agnes RF microneedling is specialized for the face, but that’s not the only thing that makes it unique: Agnes treatments use different types of microinsulated needles. These needles vary in size, shape, and length to treat different skin conditions. This makes Agnes facial treatments more targeted and individualized—and potentially more effective at treating specific facial skin conditions.

Another innovation that’s unique to Agnes microneedling is that the RF this treatment uses has a different waveform shape to other treatments. This helps reduce the risk of uncomfortable skin burns during treatment.

Agnes microneedling is safe for all skin types and skin tones, but even if your skin isn’t sensitive, you may still have a reaction to the treatment. Most people experience at least some minor redness, discomfort, and swelling. If you have questions about recovery, be sure to ask your skincare specialist at your complimentary consultation.

Is Scarlet RF Microneedling or Agnes Microneedling Right for You?

RF microneedling treatments are considered both safe and minimally invasive. As such, they are appropriate treatments for most people who want to have them.

To be a good candidate, you should:

  • Be in good health
  • Have treatable skin problems, such as wrinkles, skin sagging, discoloration, or scarring
  • Have realistic expectations about the treatment and what results you can achieve

Having had prior cosmetic surgery won’t necessarily disqualify you from having these treatments. In fact, RF microneedling can enhance and complement your surgery results.

Some skin conditions and treatments may mean you should avoid RF microneedling, at least temporarily, until the situation is resolved. Some potentially disqualifying issues can include:

  • An active skin infection or cold sore breakout
  • A skin disease like eczema or psoriasis
  • Currently undergoing radiation therapy or chemotherapy
  • Taking anticoagulant medications
  • Taking or have recently taken Accutane
  • Diabetes with uncontrolled blood sugar levels
  • A history of poor wound healing or hypertrophic scarring
  • Having a pacemaker or implantable defibrillator
  • Being pregnant

What to Expect During Scarlet and Agnes Microneedling Procedures

Savannah Plastic Surgery is proud to be the only place in Savannah to offer Scarlet and Agnes RF microneedling treatments. Our skincare specialists complete the treatments in office using local anesthesia. Each treatment is applied using a special handheld device. These RF microneedling devices deliver both the RF energy pulses and the microneedles to your treatment area(s). You may feel some slight tickling or pricking sensations, but there won’t be any actual pain during treatment.

A treatment session lasts around one hour, depending on which treatment areas you choose and how many treatment areas you choose.

Recovery and Aftercare Following Microneedling Treatment

Once your treatment is over, you’ll be able to go home right away. There’s very little downtime, and you won’t have to drastically alter your activity level, unless you want to.

After your treatment, the most common symptoms you’ll notice are swelling and redness in the treatment areas. This typically lasts anywhere from 3 to 10 days. You may also experience some minor itching, scaling, or bruising. These are all normal and expected symptoms related to the processes your skin’s going through as it heals.

Most people can resume their normal routine and activity level 24 hours after Scarlet microneedling or Agnes microneedling. But every person is different! Your personal lifestyle may need a bigger adjustment. If you have any specific needs, make sure your cosmetic practitioner takes this into account when developing your care and recovery plan.

Taking Care of Your Skin After Treatment

  • You can use a gentle cleanser after treatment but should avoid makeup for 24 hours.
  • After 24 hours, it’s okay to resume your normal skincare and makeup routines.
  • Reduce discomfort and swelling, if desired, with icepacks.
  • Use as directed any medications or creams you’ve been prescribed.
  • Use a high-SPF sunscreen for several weeks. This is important, as your skin is more sun-sensitive while it’s healing.

Microneedling Treatment Risks and Complications

Both Scarlet and Agnes microneedling procedures are minimally invasive, non-surgical treatments. Even so, there are some minor risks and potential complications to be aware of:

  • Skin infection in treatment areas
  • Persistent redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness at treatment sites
  • Signs of infection, such as fever, fatigue, headache, nausea, or vomiting

If you experience any of these symptoms, call your doctor for advice.

Another potential issue is that if you’ve ever had cold sores or acne, having these treatments may trigger a flare-up of either problem. If this happens, it’s not a cause for alarm, unless you also develop signs of infection.

What Results Can I Expect from Scarlet and Agnes Microneedling Treatments?

RF microneedling procedures work because they rely on the natural process of skin healing. This process takes several weeks to months, meaning you won’t see the effect of treatment right away. It takes up to 10 days for swelling, bruising, and other symptoms to subside.

After several weeks, you’ll start to see changes in the texture and appearance of your skin in your treatment areas. The reason results aren’t immediate is simply that healing takes time. First, your body synthesizes new collagen and elastin molecules. Then it starts incorporating those molecules into new skin as it heals. In three to six months, you’ll see the optimal results of your Agnes or Scarlet microneedling treatment.

For most people, the results of treatment last one to two years. Taking good care of your skin by wearing high-SPF sunscreen and using medical-grade skincare products can help extend your treatment results.

How Much Do Scarlet RF and Agnes Microneedling Treatments Cost?

The cost of these microneedling procedures at Savannah Plastic Surgery depends on how many treatment areas you choose. We’ll discuss this during your consultation and let you know the exact cost once you’ve decided on the treatment you want.
