Botox® / Other Neuromodulators in Savannah, GA

Are you thinking about having injectable facial treatments? If you’ve been wondering about different injectable options, you may be comparing Dysport vs BOTOX and trying to decide which is best for you. The truth is, they’re very similar treatments for facial fine lines and wrinkles, but there are some subtle differences that might influence your decision.

BOTOX vs Dysport: Neuromodulators for Facial Fine Lines and Wrinkles

BOTOX and Dysport are both injectable treatments for the face. They belong to a category of injectables called neuromodulators. Both treatments are based on Botulinum toxins and work by blocking local nerve signals in the spots where they are injected. Blocking nerve signals relaxes the muscles and smooths out the overlying skin. This reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines in areas of treatment.

Both BOTOX and Dysport can be used in the following treatment areas:

  • Crow’s feet fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes
  • Forehead wrinkles and lines
  • Frown lines (AKA glabellar lines)
  • Perioral lines
  • Downturned corners of mouth
  • Nasalis muscles “bunny lines”

Treatment candidates typically have mild to severe lines and wrinkles around the eyes or between the eyes, on the forehead, or near the lips. It’s best to be in good health, without any skin sensitivities, infections, or allergies if you want to have either Dysport or BOTOX.

Make sure to let your consultant know if:

  • You’re pregnant or breastfeeding – Treatment is avoided for breastfeeding or pregnant patients.
  • You have any skin allergies
  • You have a known allergy to Botulinum Type A or human albumin protein
  • You have any chronic health conditions or infections

BOTOX vs Dysport: What Are Treatment and Recovery Like?

When you have a BOTOX or Dysport treatment session, your skin is cleaned with alcohol and then ice is applied to the treatment area to minimize discomfort. Once your skin is ready, your chosen treatment areas are injected with BOTOX or Dysport, depending on which you’ve chosen. For both injectables, the treatment is fast and pain-free.

A typical treatment session lasts up to 30 minutes. Afterwards, there’s no downtime. Most people can resume normal activity levels right away, including returning to work. However, there are a few things to avoid for 12 hours:

  • Strenuous exercise and sweating
  • Laying face down
  • Massaging the area

BOTOX vs Dysport: Are There Any Side Effects?

Both Dysport and BOTOX have potential side effects. These are rare, but because some side effects can be dangerous, it’s important to know the signs. Make sure to talk to your provider if you’re concerned about any side effects you have after injectables treatments.

  • Common side effects include minor redness, pain, or swelling at injection sites. This can last for a few days after treatment.
  • Rare side effects can include headache, droopy eyelids, and eye dryness. These aren’t dangerous side effects, but they can be unpleasant.
  • Rare and potentially serious side effects include facial muscle weakness and trouble swallowing or breathing. Anyone experiencing these side effects should seek emergency medical care.

Dysport vs BOTOX: What Results Can I Expect?

For both Dysport and BOTOX, you’ll start to see results within a few days after treatment. It can take around a week for the full results to appear. As the effects kick in and swelling goes down, you’ll see noticeable change as lines and wrinkles reduce in your treatment areas.

The results of both injectables generally last about three months. Around the three-month mark is often the time when people start to think about having further treatment sessions to maintain their results.

BOTOX vs Dysport: Cost of Treatment

At Savannah Plastic Surgery, the cost of Botox and Dysport are relatively similar. The amount you pay for treatment depends on how many treatment areas you have and the number of units you need.

Can You Get Both Dysport and BOTOX?

Yes! You can have treatments with both BOTOX and Dysport.

You can also combine BOTOX and Dysport with other injectables, including fillers such as Juvéderm® and Restylane®. In fact, many people combine neuromodulators with dermal fillers for a full-face treatment approach. Some patients opt for multiple syringes of filler placed strategically to lift and rebalance the face in addition to BOTOX or Dysport treatments. This is known as the “liquid facelift,” “facial rebalancing,” or “full face rejuvenation.”

Dysport vs BOTOX: Which One Should You Get?

BOTOX and Dysport are similar treatments that both work effectively to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. If you have wrinkles in the eye area or forehead that you’d like to treat, then either BOTOX or Dysport can help. However, there are some subtle differences in the two formulas, so it’s important to make your choice carefully to ensure you get the best results possible.
