You've decided you're ready for cosmetic surgery - what next? You need to choose the surgeon who will be your partner through this process. Having the right physician can make an enormous difference in whether or not your experience is a positive one.
Dr. Lawrence Ruf recently published an article in Savannah Health Perspective magazine, and outlined the top 5 things you should do when choosing a plastic surgeon:
1. Do your research. Gather referrals from family, friends and the Internet.
2. Schedule a consultation with two or three surgeons for a first-hand opportunity to evaluate your options.
3. When selecting your surgeon, make sure he or she is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
4. Do your homework. Prepare a list of questions to ask, remember to ask the surgeon about expectations, potential risks, complications, and the length of recovery.
5. Choose a surgeon who makes you feel comfortable asking questions.
