Unexpected Side Benefits of Plastic Surgery

By The Team @ Savannah Plastic Surgery

By The Team @ Savannah Plastic Surgery

Typically, you may not associate plastic surgery with something like smoking cessation. But a recent study confirmed something we've experienced with our own patients - sometimes having plastic surgery is an incentive for patients to finally make healthier choices, like stopping smoking.

Plastic Surgery in Savannah, GA

The website Physician's Briefing released details about a small study involving 85 patients who were active smokers before having cosmetic surgery. During their pre-surgery consultations they were advised to stop smoking in the 2 weeks prior to surgery. They did, and after a long-term follow up, 40% of the patients were no longer smokers.

For some people, finally getting a cosmetic procedure they've been wanting is enough incentive to make improvements in other areas of their health. Some, like those in this study, will choose to quit smoking. We've had other patients so pleased with their new body shape, they finally feel like exercising and eating healthier. If your surgery makes it easier for you to move around, you might find yourself playing with the kids or the grandkids more.

The aesthetic improvements from plastic surgery are easy to predict, but we're pleased to see how many other ways our patients' lives improve after cosmetic surgery.

We offer complimentary consultations for cosmetic surgery, so contact us today if you'd like to make an appointment with one of our seven surgeons.
